Asphalt fibre

The fibre that keeps the binder in the mix.

HLB-FIBER is cellulose stabilising fibre for stone mastic asphalt, supplied as coated pellets. Dosed at 0.3% of the mix, it absorbs and holds the bitumen so nothing drains off in the truck or on the paver.

SMA is mostly coarse aggregate, a stone skeleton that resists rutting, with a rich bitumen mastic filling the voids. Without a stabiliser the mastic drains during storage and transport, and the mix arrives lean on top and rich at the bottom. Cellulose fibre absorbs the bitumen into its structure and holds it there, which also gives a thicker binder film and better resistance to ageing.

HLB-FIBER is pelletised and coated, so it meters cleanly and keeps dust down in the plant. In the mixer the pellets break open and disperse within a 5–15 second dry pre-mix, with no clumping in the finished mix.

Without stabilising fibre

  • Binder drains during transport and storage
  • Mix arrives lean on top, rich at the bottom
  • Inconsistent surface texture, early ravelling

With stabilising fibre at 0.3%

  • Fibre absorbs and holds the binder in the mastic
  • Mix stays homogeneous from plant to paver
  • Full design binder content reaches the road

Where it’s used
